Divorce - Things to bring with you on your first meeting
Things to bring with you on your first meeting (documents for both you and your spouse), or at least to start preparing:
- Diaries, notes or calendars
- Pay check stubs
- Tax returns for the last 4 years
- Any and all legal papers that may apply (prenups, ante-nups, recent settlements, powers of attorney, contracts, etc.)
- Bank statements
- All statements on financial accounts, including pensions, 401-K and savings
- Mortgage, and payoff statements
- Car titles
- Statements of credit cards, or other debts
- Agreements between you and your soon to be ex
- Inheritance or gift tax returns
- Deeds, or other documents of property you own in addition to home
- Copyright or trademark documents
- Business records and tax returns
- Investment documents
- Itemized list of properties to be split
- Monthly expenditures, before and after separation of you and your spouse
- Wills
- Records of any past court cases
- Insurance policies
.. and, most importantly:
- A list of the goals you have regarding your divorce, starting with the most important, and going to the most insignificant.
- A list of questions you have about the divorce process
